This lunar cycle runs between the 13th of January to the 30th of January. It signifies the last period of Winter before it starts to break – the darkest period. This Autumn/Winter as a whole has been tough on many of us, reflected by December’s Great Conjunction between Saturn and Jupiter, but remember what they say: it gets darkest before the dawn.

The last lunar cycle saw political upheaval, violence, and tyranny. This cycle won’t necessarily be any easier, but it is an opportunity to stabilize ourselves financially and emotionally, and look into the future and create a better life. It starts with a New Moon in 13º Capricorn – the Moon isn’t happy here as it’s the coldest and most practical time of the year, yet the Sun is in one of its favourite places as it can see further ahead, noticing that Spring isn’t far away. We’re called to be more prudent with resources and plans, as well as being more patient with those around us.
The New Moon also occurs right next to Pluto, signifying a good time for studying more complex and occult subjects. Perhaps you’ll learn some things about yourself, like addictive behaviours or unwanted aspects of your personality. On a social and global scale, this may signify the uprooting of secrets held by those in power.

A square between Jupiter and Uranus is pretty close during this cycle and will come to completion by February 17th – both on a personal and world-wide level this heralds great and sudden changes in how we’ve been living and the things we’ve become accustomed to. It would be remiss of me to not mention the exchange of power coming up on the 19th from the Donald Trump Presidency to the Joe Biden Presidency, and the controversy between people regarding Biden’s legitimacy.

Last week Washington DC was in the news when a group of protesters made it into the Capitol building, resulting in a woman being fatally shot in the neck by Secret Service. The event has caused a further divide along partisan lines that has most of the United States feeling as though they’re on the brink of civil war. I may visit that subject in another post. In short, with Mars in a square with Jupiter and Saturn, we may actually see some violence from either or both sides.

Mars will be in a tight square with Saturn, slowing down and frustrating our efforts, as well as making co-operation with authority figures a bit dicey. The situation is improved by the separating square with Mercury, making communication easier across the board if we have patience and apply some effort.

Over-all, many of us are facing crisis – but as the modern wisdom tells us, the Chinese character for “crisis” is simply the reverse character for “opportunity.” Take the next 4 weeks to find out how you can change these challenges into new strengths for your life going forward.
